Asmed qualified in 1998 and has been Practice Principal since 2001. He also holds an adult postgraduate qualification in teaching from UCLAN and has been involved in postgraduate dental professional training since 2003.
He is an experienced sedation operator, having completed Advanced Intravenous Sedation training. He has also been trained in the delivery of anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers, as well as orthodontic systems including Clearstep, QuickStraight Teeth and Invisalign. He is currently undertaking advanced facial aesthetic training, including non-surgical rhinoplasty, tear troughs and cheek enhancements.
To make use of his practical and anatomical skills, Asmed is developing his knowledge in other areas, such as the usage of plasma devices for skin tightening and PRP hair rejuvenation.
When not hard at work, Asmed enjoys cycling, travel and film. He also likes tinkering with cars and digging out his pans for cooking his favourite dishes. He is married to Nasreen and has two children.
Lee Nightingale

Lee qualified from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne University in 1998. He is our resident expert in all aspects of Dental Implantology, having completed the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Implant training program. He is especially interested in the implant rehabilitation of denture wearers.
Outside work, he enjoys spending time in the hills and mountains, especially skiing in the winter. He is also a keen cyclist who enjoys fixing bikes just as much as riding them.
Mark Gidley

Mark qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2010. Prior to this, he completed an undergraduate degree and PhD in Microbiology, before working as a research scientist.
Mark has been at Verne Road since 2010 and enjoys working in a large, friendly practice. In 2015, Mark completed a postgraduate certificate in Facilitating Learning in Healthcare Practice and became involved with Dental Foundation Training. He is now an Educational Supervisor for newly qualified dentists working at the practice and enjoys providing advice and support.
When not busy in the practice, Mark loves travelling.
Ammel Sulaiman

Ammel studied at the University of Leeds where she gained a Certificate of Merit for Distinction in the Clinical Dental Surgery examination.
She has worked in general dental practice for ten years in North Lincolnshire and Northumberland, and in North Shields for three of those. Her special interests include minimally invasive dentistry and anterior composites.
Ammel particularly enjoys offering a variety of treatments, meeting all her patients and the fact that every day is different.
When not hard at work, Ammel enjoys hiking, travel and sewing.
Richard Garner

Richard qualified from Newcastle University in 2010 and then undertook a year’s foundation dental training at Chester Road Practice. He has been at the Verne Road Practice since 2011 and particularly enjoys restoring teeth and relieving pain.
When not helping his patients, Richard loves getting sporty. He plays hockey for Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Hockey Club and will be Secretary for the long running Newcastle and Northern Dental Surgeons Golf Society in 2018. As well as having an FA Coaching badge (Level 1), Richard plays weekly five-a-side and is a ‘long-suffering’ (his words!) Nottingham Forest Fan. He also enjoys cricket, and watching any kind of sport on TV.
Helen Cheney

Helen qualified from Newcastle University in 2000 and, while an undergraduate, she was awarded the John Hopkins Prize. She is now Training Program Director for Health Education England, mentoring newly qualified dentists in the North East.
Helen has worked at Verne Road Practice since May 2011 and really enjoys making her patients feel relaxed in the dental environment, as well as addressing their specific needs. She is keen to cultivate strong patient relationships underpinned by trust and understanding.
When not busy in the practice, Helen loves going on family outings in North Tyneside and especially spending time at the beautiful local beaches.
Roxanne Ninkovic

Roxanne qualified from the University of Leeds in 2014. She has a special interest in the cosmetic application of dentistry and has experience in carrying out simple restorative cases. She is looking to further develop her skills, including taking a course in adult orthodontics, so she can tackle more complex cases.
A diligent and dedicated dentist, Roxanne offers excellence in all aspects of dentistry. She prides herself on being an adaptable and friendly dental professional who gets on well with her patients and colleagues.
When not treating her patients to the highest levels of care, Roxanne loves indulging in high-energy activities such as running, skiing and exercise classes. She also enjoys travelling, as well as cooking and painting when relaxing at home.
Divya Smith

Since qualifying in 1992, from the University of Newcastle, Divya has gained significant experience working in a variety of dental practices, many in the North East.
Divya is a proactive member of the dental team who is also organised, capable and extremely reliable. She is passionate about her work and now her children are older, she is keen to pursue further interests in dentistry.
Outside the practice, Divya has a keen interest in film and literature, and the culinary pursuits of cooking, baking and cake decorating. She also enjoys keeping fit and spending time with her family and friends.
Harry McKenzie

Dental Training: Graduated from the University of Sheffield, gaining a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree with honours.
Work History: Dental Foundation Training completed general dental practice in Blyth, Northumberland.
Special Interests: I have a keen interest in restoring function and aesthetics of patients’ smiles with the use of modern restorative materials.
What do I enjoy about the job:
I particularly enjoy the variety that this job has to offer, having the opportunity to engage with many different individuals of all ages, on a
daily basis.
I find it particularly rewarding to be able to put anxious patients at ease and also relive patients of pain.
Interests: Outside of dentistry, I enjoy keeping active; whether this be playing 5 a side football or tennis. More recently, I have also been spending my free time pursuing a newly developed interest in photography.
Jonathan Taylor

Training – Graduated from University of Sheffield and carried out foundation training at Verne Road Dental Practice, then staying on as an associate.
Jonathan prides himself on being a good communicator, creating a comfortable environment to be treated in. He enjoys carrying out cosmetic dentistry and is keen to further his learning in this area over the next few years.
When not at work Jonathan is a keen cook and enjoys keeping active through running. He is an avid football fan and season ticket holder for NUFC
